Styled Valentines Recipe Shoot

Valentines is a big upsell for many of our clients. Product shoots for Valentine's marketing are usually produced, shot, and edited by December. This shoot was a styled recipe shoot.

It's so important that when a client is investing in a shoot like this that we create maximum visual content and take advantage of the opportunities for visuals that each stage of the shoot presents.

When planning a shoot such as this one, we have a multi-content checklist as part of the shoot design and planning. For this shoot alone, the client can gain new visual content for all five marketing channels and has additional visual content for repurposing later in the year.

During this shoot we created…

Pinterest Valentines food recipe visuals

Pinterest Valentines cocktail recipe visuals

Stop motion step by step video for TikTok and Instagram stories

40 visuals to be used on Instagram and Pinterest

Visuals for Valentines email campaign

Visuals for Newsletter

Blog visuals & Vlog Video

Website Visuals

Visuals to distribute to resellers of the product

Five videos for social media channels and website

Cost for Shoot: £450.00 plus £45.00 for ingredients and flowers (props, backdrops, equipment, lighting supplied by The Creative Caboodle from our stock. The shoot was in The Creative Caboodle Kitchen so no location hire fees applied)

The Brief

The brief for this shoot was light, airy and valentines colours from a small batch Limoncello producer. They wanted a recipe shoot that their product could be used in for both a cocktail and Valentine's dessert, so we proposed the idea of rasberry and Limoncello tart with a Limoncello, blood orange and thyme cocktail.

They LOVED it!

Planning the Shoot

Most of the time, clients are not present during the styled shoots. This enables us to work on days when the light is right and gives us flexibility around timings and creative flow.

We consult with the client from the start of the process. In the beginning, the client will be presented with props, backgrounds and ideas for the stage and layout. The client will also be sent unedited images during the set-up and actual shoot to give their feedback.

This enables client to have control and oversee the shoot throughout the process.

It is so important to us to maximise the client's investment in a shoot. This is why we also take visuals of generic images relevant to their future visual content needs. In the case of this Limoncello brand, we knew close-ups of some of the ingredients, such as the lemons and the lemon gratings, individually away from the styled shoot would be incredibly useful to them in the future. This enabled us to hand over additional content to the client relevant to their product that they can use in the future.

We also included visuals from several different angles to get a whole new viewer perspective on the images in this shoot.

As the client was also sending over several bottles of their products, they opted for an additional Post and Shoot Package. This gave them studio images of their product for an additional £220.00 to use on their website, social media, pitch deck, and stockist's social media feeds.

Top tips for shooting a styled scene

1. Plan the scene. Where will it be? What props do you need? What is your backdrop? What lighting will you need? Do you need any extras such as flowers or ingredients?

2. Place the props and backdrops together, and take some test shots. Do they work together?

3. Sketch a storyboard of the shots you want.

4. Make a list of the images you need for each social media channel, email campaign, newsletter etc.

5. When shooting, remember the different ratios needed for each social media channel.

6. Check your content lists throughout the shoot.

7. Don’t forget to try and shoot some generic content.

8. Always check your images as you go. Make sure they are the quality you need.

9. As soon as your shoot is finished, back up your images before packing them away.
